Known for Bethpage State Park (actually in the hamlet of Old Bethpage), the town is filled with bike paths, golf courses and history. The Village stretches from Stewart Avenue near the Northern border to Plainedge/Massapequa down South. History is everywhere, and much has to do with Aviation and Aerospace. Until 1994, Grumman, General Dynamics, and finally Northrup Grumman produced the F-111 Aardvark, the Lunar Module that landed on the moon, and the F-14 Tomcat respectively. Due to economics the aerospace industry was forced to leave but now the area boasts over 250,000 square feet of soundstage in two studios being billed as Hollywood East. To me though, Bethpage is golf. From the Black course designed by Tillinghast, to the other four courses at the State Park, there is no finer public venue in the state. The Black has hosted two US Opens and all the courses host numerous PGA and USGA events annually. And anyone can play them all. Visit the Park on a Sunday morning in the fall and you might take in a polo match. Miles of bike paths, acres of fields, and 90 holes of golf. Truly a sportman’s paradise in Bethpage.
